  11. Subject: bug in newest kpathsea under DEC alpha / OSF 2.0 ?

  13. I think there is a bug in the newest version of kpathsea under OSF1 V
  14. 2.0.

  16. To repeat from previous posting: I am working on a DEC alpha 3000/600
  17. running OSF1 V 2.0.  I used gcc 2.5.8, also compiled under 2.0; it
  18. passed 'make compare', so it is compiled with itself.  I followed the
  19. FTP.nwc instructions.  I did 'configure', 'make', and 'make install'
  20. in the web2c-6.1 directory.

  22. I first compiled tex with the newer version of kpathsea (the one that
  23. comes with xdvik-1.8, using the tex patch in web2c.help.kpathsea).  In
  24. this case, tex/latex/initex etc., and also the initial metafont
  25. program that is called to dump a format file, can not find any files
  26. unless I have the paths set in my environment variables.

  28. I then recompiled tex with the older version of kpathsea (the one that
  29. comes with the web2c distribution) and now it works fine, without any
  30. environmental variables set (yes, I checked, no path variables set in
  31. my environment).

  33. kpathsea/paths.h was more or less identical in each case (I say more
  34. or less because I didn't diff them, sorry, but they are identical as
  35. far as I could see; and, I just used the defaults in each case, I
  36. didn't change anything in the kpathsea distribution; and, I unloaded
  37. lib.tar.gz in /usr/local/lib without making any changes).  So far as I
  38. can tell, this is a bug.

  40. Also, my xdvi can't find any fonts, whether or not my environment
  41. variables are set --- and it, of course was made with the new version
  42. of kpathsea.

  44. In the meantime, while waiting for a bug fix --- does anyone know what
  45. changes I have to make to compile xdvik and dvipsk with the older
  46. version of kpathsea?  and/or, does anyone have the source for the
  47. versions of these that use the previous kpathsea.  I would like to get
  48. these on the system as soon as possible.
